Cuppers is CDC’s annual friendly competition, and is normally held around Easter time. The 2008 competition takes place on Saturday 26 April 2008, at the University Centre, Mill Lane. Doors open at 3:00pm with the first round at 3:30pm.
In addition to the details on this page, we also have a Q&A page with the answers to lots of more specific questions.
We thank the University Centre for their generosity in giving us the venue and encourage people to have a drink or a bite to eat at their Granta Cafe and Bar or the Riverside Restaurant.
We are also grateful for the support of
for their sponsorship of the team match, and of
for their sponsorship of the open events.
The day includes several different competitions, separated by dance style and by level. For the competition in Easter term 2008, the categories are as follows.
Beginners competitions are restricted to those who started dancing that style in October 2007 or later. If there are entries from couples who have only started dancing since the new year, then separate prizes may be given or an additional Absolute Beginners competition run depending on numbers.
The beginners and open basic Dancesport categories are restricted to basic steps.
All Dancesport competitions are in non-competitive dress, except for the inter-college team match.
The competition will take place in the main dining hall at the University Centre (where we have General Dancing on Fridays).
Parking is limited at the University Centre. There are lots of pay and displays and multi-storey car parks around town. Otherwise, we recommend bikes, feet and public transport!
There are limited changing facilities at the venue so unless you are happy changing in the hall, we advise dancers to do as much as they can beforehand and to allow plenty of time before their competition starts for any final preparations.
No outside food should be brought into the University Centre. There are salads and sandwiches available from the bar and cafe, or plenty of places to eat around town.
Please respect the other users of the University Centre as we will not be the only people using the building. The University Centre and Cambridge Dancers’ Club accept no liability for loss of personal belongings left unattended.
As usual, heel protectors must be worn by ladies with dancing shoes.
The scheduled start times for the different events are as follows.
