Competition Rules
- Beginners must wear lounge dress or practice wear. There are no dress restrictions for any other dancers.
- Any clothing that is designed or altered to artificially improve a dancer's chance of being marked through a round is not lounge wear.
- Practice wear is limited to practice-skirts and outfits of a similar category.
- Beginners are defined as in the IVDA constitution.
- An ex-student couple must consist of either two ex-students, or one ex- student and one present student.
- The Ex-students event may only be entered by an ex-student couple.
- Ex-student couples where neither partner has ever danced pre-champ or above on the open circuit or A team/advanced on the university circuit may dance in the Intermediate or Novice event if they so choose.
- An ex-student must be a current member of a university dance society, must have been eligible to dance as a current student at some time previously, and must no longer be eligible to dance as a current student.
- Only basic steps (BCD syllabus) may be danced in the beginners and novice events.
- An individual or couple may only dance in one of: beginners, novice, intermediate or advanced, for each half of the day-time program.
- Only student couples may enter the Team Match.
- D-team may consist entirely of beginners, even if higher teams remain unfilled. However, non-beginners may only dance in the D-team if A-C teams are completely filled. D-team may be of unlimited size.
- Competitors may enter only one of Beginners and Open Salsa.
