Cambridge Dancers' Club

About the club

Who are we?

Cambridge Dancers’ Club is a non-profit organisation, run by its members, promoting dancing around Cambridge, UK.

We are a registered Cambridge University society, and around 3/4 of our members are CU students or staff. However, you don’t have to be connected with the university to join. We welcome any adults from the area, including Anglia Ruskin students, local residents, and visitors.

Rock 'n' Roll dancers

Unsurprisingly given our target audience, most of our members are aged 18–30. Older members are welcome, and we even have some regulars in their 50s and 60s. However, those who are looking for classes with a predominantly older clientele might find some of the other local clubs more comfortable. Likewise, we are happy for those aged 16+ to join our classes and we do have a few sixth formers or year-young students dancing with us. We regret we cannot offer our classes to under-16s, but there are several other dancing schools in the Cambridge area that do cater for younger children.

You can read more about club membership.

What do we do?

The main things we organise are:

Ballroom dancers

Depending on demand, we also provide more general competitive training, medals tests, demonstrations (often at CU May Balls), and opportunities to learn about related fields like health and fitness from a dancer’s perspective.

Our teaching is normally provided by independent professionals rather than club members, and we are not agents. If you’re looking for someone to teach a class for you, we’re not really the right people to ask.

We provide for several different dance styles, mainly partner dancing. Currently, the styles we offer are:

Administration

The club is organised by a committee of around 40–50 volunteers, led by the executive officers, who are elected at the Annual General Meeting.

Our AGM is held shortly after Easter each year. The 2008 AGM was held on Friday 16 May 2008 at 8:30pm in the main dining hall of the University Centre, Mill Lane. The officers and constitution linked from this page have been updated with the results.

The club’s constitution and grievance procedure are available for reference.
